2024 Gala Concert

On Saturday 31 August, Serenata Singers brought together all their talents to present our annual Gala. In partnership with Ashgrove/The Gap Lions, we worked hard to be ready for a big crowd to join us in our “Thank You For the Music” theme afternoon featuring the ABBA medley “Mama Mia”. Along with this medley, we entertained the crowd with a trio of Aussie tunes in “Eye of the Needle”, “I Still Call Australia Home” and “The Brown Snake”.

Each year we invite The Gap High School to highlight some of their music students. The four musicians played trumpet and trombone adaptations of “William Tell Overture”, “The Entertainer”, The Minstrel Boy” and “Mexican Hat Dance”.

As usual, both Lions and Serenata provided a memorable afternoon tea which more than filled the spot. After interval, we presented a moving version of “Danny Boy”, “The Lord is My Shephard”, Faure’s “Cantique de Jen Racine” (in French), “Over the Rainbow” and finished with a lively second half of the “Mama Mia” medley.

This year, our Musical Director, Guillaume Lemay-Yates was not able to lead us on the day, but we were ably assisted with David O’Keeffe as conductor and Alison Siemon as our accompanist.
