Who we are

Serenata Singers is a community choir based in The Gap, Brisbane. We are a four-part harmony choir or SATB – Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Bass.  We are a multi-talented group coming from all walks of life and musical experiences.

Our Conductor and Accompanists

The choir is led by our highly qualified Conductor Guillaume Lemay-Yates and Accompanist Alison Siemon. We are also currently seeking a Deputy Accompanist to join the team.

Why we sing

In a recent survey of our members, valued aspects of their choir membership were identified as making and meeting friends, learning about music, providing entertainment for elderly people, and the thrill of public performance. Additionally, studies have shown that choral singing decreases stress, anxiety and depression and improves physical health.

What we sing

The choir prides itself on a professional performance, due to the diligence of our accomplished conductor and accompanists.

Our performance programs are varied to suit our audiences, comprising excerpts from musical comedies and operas, popular and folk songs, sacred songs and spirituals among others.

Performances

We perform about 15 times during the year across northern Brisbane, on both weekdays and weekends. Some of our concerts are open to the public while others are held in aged care facilities, community centres and the like.

Our yearly highlight is a public Gala Lions Concert held in October/November where we present a themed showcase of our music.

Rehearsals

Our rehearsals are in a friendly atmosphere of men and women who just enjoy making music together.

We rehearse in the auditorium of The Gap Uniting Church (1050 Waterworks Road, The Gap) on Monday nights between 7:00pm and 9:00pm. Rehearsals are held throughout the year from February through to December. 

Choir Members

We are a non-auditioning choir of over 25 members – everyone is welcome! Members just need to be confident that they can hold a tune and sing a part.

We don’t expect members to participate in every performance, but we do ask that you have a commitment to coming to as many rehearsals as possible and participating in as many performances as you are able.
