We recently published this article in one of our local newspapers… come and check us out, talk to the people in the choir, and see if you’d like to sing with us in 2019!
THE Serenata Singers, a community choir based in The Gap, are holding an open night on Monday, February 25, for prospective new members.
Do you sing in the shower, or while driving the car, and reckon you sound OK? Then why not make 2019 the year you get a bit more serious and join a choir.
Serenata enjoyed a banner year in 2018 and is looking for new members. Singers can join at any time but the open evening is an ideal occasion to see if the choir is for you. The event is a chance to meet choir members and observe and participate in a rehearsal. No audition is necessary but an ability to read music is helpful.
The choir sings a variety of popular and show tunes. It rehearses weekly on Monday evenings at The Gap Uniting Church and performs regularly, mainly for retirement communities, care facilities and community groups. The choir is particularly interested in adding male voices.
In a recent survey, valued aspects of choir membership were identified as making and meeting friends, learning about music, providing entertainment for elderly people, and the thrill of public performance. Additionally, studies have shown that choral singing decreases stress, anxiety and depression and improves physical health. For more info look around are website.
