The Serenata Singers got their 2019 concert season off to a rollicking start with a Saint Patrick’s Day concert at the Stafford Lakes Aged Care Residence. The room was decorated with shamrocks and the choir members got in the spirit by sporting a bit of “green bling”. Conductor Lois Cutmore went the extra mile sporting a leprechaun hat and a sash. The program included a solo rendition by Desleigh Byrne of the Irish standard “Danny Boy” and the community singing included three songs on Irish themes: “Sweet Rosie O’Grady”, “Peg O’ My Heart” and “Nellie Kelly”.

The program also included solos by Denis Joyce and Ian Symes (who acted as compere) and numbers drawn from our 2018 repertoire, including medleys by Lennon and McCarthy, Irving Berlin, and Cole Porter as well as from the musicals Les Miserables and Phantom of the Opera. The choir was, as always, accompanied by the peerless Prue Gibbs.
