The latest outing for the choir was an engagement at the Mitchie Day Club at 11.30am on a warm and sunny Wednesday 25 September. The concert marked the debut performance of three numbers from the Gershwin Swing Set (They Can’t Take That Away From Me, Nice Work if You Can Get It and ‘S Wonderful), which we managed to get through creditably. Other numbers included Down to the River to Pray, I’m Gonna Sing, and medleys from HMS Pinafore, Oklahoma and John Denver. Jenni Mersiades conducted and Prue Gibbs provided the accompaniment. John McCollow acted as compere. Denis Joyce and Rosemary Henni provided solos – Music of the Night and Dream a Little Dream of Me respectively. A good size audience responded appreciatively to our performance and joined enthusiastically in the community singing.
