In what has become an annual tradition, the choir travelled to St Gerard Majella in Chermside for our last concert of the year. The parish stages a Christmas festival over a full week with Christmas markets, food stalls, an eye-popping (and award winning) display of Christmas decorations and live entertainment, including on Tuesday evening 17 December the Serenata Singers.
We performed variety of Christmas related songs, some light-hearted and some sacred. Numbers included I’m Gonna Sing, Angels We Have Heard on High, Deck the Halls, I Saw Three Ships, O Come All Ye Faithful, The Friendly Beasts, The Three Drovers, Veni Jesu, Silent Night, O Holy Night and Sanctus.
Community sing-a-long numbers included Away in a Manger, Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer, Jingle Bells and We Wish You a Merry Christmas.
The choir program was beautifully augmented by duets from Beverley Crouch and Barbara Anderson (His Name is Life and Our Eyes Have Seen the Lord); a solo by Ian Symes (a musical version of Psalm 23 – The Lord is my Shepherd); and a quartet consisting of Sharon Schinkel, Sue Edwards, Rosemary Henni and Lyn Orchard (Let There Be Peace on Earth).
Ian Symes acted as the compere for the evening. Jenni Mersiades conducted and Prue Gibbs provided the accompaniment.
A good size audience thoroughly enjoyed the performance, which sent them off filled with Christmas spirit.
